A dental bridge is often the option chosen when you lose one tooth, especially if it is a tooth that is easily seen when you smile. A dental bridge is a piece of dental work that has crowns on both side and a full tooth in the middle. This is permanently attached to the teeth that remain on either side of the gap. Keeping this clean can take a little extra work.

Why Special Treatment?
Your dental bridge fits close to the gum line, but there can often be minute gaps that can trap food and cause decay in the end teeth. This will make it necessary to have the bridge removed to care for the impairment. By taking extra care in cleaning, you can extend the life of the bridge as long as fifteen years or more.

Step One – The Crowns
Since the crowns cover actual teeth, it is essential to clean them gently at least twice a day. You can use a regular soft-bristle brush for this, but it is more beneficial to invest in an electric toothbrush. With the electric brush, the motion will be able to more easily reach any food that is lodged in the gaps close to your gums. It will also work better on removing the plaque that can cause decay. An interdental pick can be used to reach any smaller gaps.

Step Two -The Full Tooth
With this tooth, the middle one, using the electric tooth brush is also recommended. For the gaps around the gums and near the crowns, invest in a water flosser. This will remove any food particles more gently than regular floss, which can end up damaging both the tooth and your gums.
